Do I Have to Get Naked? Common Boudoir Misconceptions

One of the most common questions I hear from people considering a boudoir session is: “Do I have to get naked?”
Let me say this loud and clear: Absolutely not.

Boudoir photography is not about how much you take off—it's about how much you let yourself feel. Feel confident. Feel powerful. Feel sexy. And most importantly, feel comfortable.

Your comfort level is always the top priority. The truth is, when you feel at ease, you naturally radiate beauty and sensuality—whether you're in lace lingerie or a cozy sweater.

Let’s Talk Wardrobe Options

Over the years, I’ve photographed clients in all kinds of outfits, and they’ve all looked incredible. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to boudoir. Here are just a few real-life styling choices clients have made for their sessions:

  • Athletic wear – Think sports bras and leggings. It’s a strong, confident look that feels authentic and powerful.

  • Denim & casual tops – A great pair of jeans with a bra, tank, or crop top? Yes, please. It’s casual, sexy, and totally customizable.

  • Button-down dress shirts – A fan favorite! Worn over lingerie or buttoned up with shorts underneath, this style offers a flirty, playful vibe and tons of variety.

  • Dresses – Don’t sleep on the magic of a gorgeous dress. Clients often choose their dress shots as wall art because they’re just that stunning.

  • Full coverage lingerie – Bodysuits, robes, or slips can be elegant and sexy without showing much skin at all.

  • Nothing at all – Of course, if going nude or implied nude is something you’re excited about, we’ll approach it with artistry, respect, and complete care.

Your Session, Your Way

No matter what you choose to wear (or not wear), your session is yours. It’s a time to express your personality, style, and unique beauty—on your own terms. If you’re not sure what direction to go in, that’s exactly what pre-session consultations are for. I love helping clients talk through all the wardrobe possibilities so you feel totally prepared and excited walking into your shoot.

So, no—you don’t have to get naked to do boudoir. You just have to be you. And I’ll be right here to guide you every step of the way.
