How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session: The Ultimate Prep Guide

Getting ready for your boudoir session can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. One of the best ways to ensure an amazing experience (and amazing photos) is to come prepared. I’ve created this easy-to-follow guide with the help of my hair and makeup team to help you get the most out of your boudoir shoot—from glowing skin to flawless hair. Let’s get into it!

Skin Prep: Glow from Head to Toe

Your skin is your canvas, and a little prep can go a long way:

  • Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face – We'll take care of the glam!

  • Cleanse and moisturize your face and body to create a smooth, hydrated base.

  • Exfoliate 1–2 days before your shoot to remove dead skin and get that soft, radiant glow.

  • Groom your brows – Whether you wax, thread, or tweeze, well-shaped brows make a big impact.

  • Save hair and makeup inspo – Bring along photos of styles you love to help us customize your look.

Hair Prep: Picture-Perfect Tresses

How your hair arrives matters—especially for styling purposes:

  • Arrive with tangle-free hair that hasn’t been washed in the last 24 hours – Slightly “dirty” hair holds style better.

  • If you air dry your hair, try to avoid doing so the morning of your session (unless you have curly hair).

  • Curly or frizzy-haired babes: Stick to your normal taming routine so your hair stays controlled and fabulous.

  • Hair must be completely dry when you arrive. If blow drying is needed at the studio, a $50 fee will be applied.

Additional Reminders: The Little Details Matter

Sometimes it’s the small things that elevate your photos:

  • Paint your nails! A fresh mani/pedi (even just a clear coat) can make a big difference in your photos.

  • Leave bulky accessories or your watch at home – If tight items like watches are on you before your shoot you risk marks left on your skin.

  • Wear loose, comfy clothing to your session – Zip-up tops are highly recommended for easy removal without messing up your hair and makeup.

  • Skip the bra – This helps avoid unwanted lines and marks on your skin.

  • In warmer weather, t-shirt dresses or flowy knits are perfect. Even some “loose” pants can have waistbands that leave impressions, so be mindful of every part of your outfit.

Your boudoir session is all about celebrating your beauty and confidence. Preparing ahead of time helps everything run smoothly so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
