Floral Backdrops & Birthday Bubbles | Boston Area Children’s Photography

Last week was extra sweet at my Katherine Henry Boudoir studio here in Reading — it was school vacation week, which meant I had a few very enthusiastic (and very adorable) assistants on set. I’m thinking I might have a family business in the making! 😉

We had the absolute joy of welcoming Emelia into the studio to celebrate her 10th birthday, and it was the perfect mix of feminine, fun, and full of bubbles.

A Floral Dream + Bubble Machine Magic

When planning this children’s birthday portrait session, we knew we wanted to feature the studio’s new floral backdrop for that soft, light, feminine vibe. It’s perfect for milestone portraits and adds such a timeless look — especially for a 10th birthday session.

But we also wanted to keep things playful… so in came the bubble machine!

I love incorporating bubbles into kids photography sessions. The second they start floating through the air, something magical happens. The smiles become natural, the laughter is real, and the poses turn into pure joy. Ivy happily jumped in to demonstrate a few poses, while Max took his bubble machine operator role very seriously. Honestly? Best crew ever.

Styling for Movement & Confidence

As a North Shore MA portrait photographer, I always guide my clients through outfit planning to make sure the session flows beautifully.

For Emelia’s session, we chose:

  • A dressier jumpsuit for the floral backdrop — polished but comfortable enough to move freely.

  • A classic jeans and tee combo for the bubble set — relaxed, playful, and timeless.

I always encourage outfits that allow kids to move, sit, twirl, and pose without worrying about adjusting straps or smoothing a dress. When they feel comfortable, the confidence shines through — and that’s where the magic lives.

Why Birthday Portrait Sessions Are So Special

Turning 10 is such a big milestone — that sweet spot between little kid and growing independence. These sessions aren’t just about cute photos (though there were plenty of those!). They’re about freezing this moment in time.

As a Boston area children’s photographer serving Reading, MA and the North Shore, I love creating portrait experiences that feel joyful, relaxed, and truly personal. Whether we’re celebrating a birthday or simply refreshing family portraits, the goal is always the same: authentic smiles and beautiful images you’ll actually hang on your walls.

And speaking of that…

Let’s Refresh Those Walls

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your family portraits, this is your sign. My Reading, MA photography studio is booking more children’s portrait sessions, birthday sessions, and “just because” shoots — and I would absolutely love to celebrate your kiddo next.

It’s time to refresh those photos on your wall and capture who they are right now.

Let’s make some magic (and maybe bring out the bubbles).
